Sandra Chevrier

Canadian contemporary artist Sandra Chevrier was a full-time single mother before becoming an artist. Chevrier called herself a "gaze collector," and she began her art career by drawing sketches of eyes. She thinks that gazing at a person's eyes can see all his/her emotions. To date, she has created countless female paintings that seemed like to stare at the audience. These women's faces are often covered with masks of heroic comics. However, compared to these heroic stories on the surface, more worthy of attention is the women who are covered under them. They are limited by the stereotypes and expectations imposed by the heroic society: they must be beautiful and perfect.
